This is a modern and tolerant society which is at the same time accomodating and open-minded. And it is definitely not unfriendly as one would expect it to be in a Nordic country. Iceland is a country proud of having a woman as Prime minister; she is furthermore the first lesbian to reach this position. All that pride can be seen during the festival in which gays and lesbians show how proud they are – the Gay Pride –, a festival that takes place in Iceland as in many other countries even if it’s celebrated in another way.

Iceland is a country full of contrasts, developing and old traditions live together in an island with just 300.000 inhabitants, out of which 200.00 live in the Reykjavik area, the capital. It´s easy to feel attracted by the modernity of the big city, but where you really get to know this country and its culture is in its endless fields, small villages and farms, where in summer the tractors are cutting grass and rolling it in plastic in order to preserve it as food for the sheep during the winter.

There is people...
